Instructor/Advisor Spotlight

Vice Via

Vice Via is an undeniable talent. The quintessential rocker has a natural affinity for performing and writing catchy, energetic "punk-funk" tunes. With funky, riff driven guitar music and star persona, Vice evokes raw energy and attitude, drawing comparisons to true rockstars such as Prince, Axl Rose, and Lenny Kravitz. In the vein of his influences, Vice is able to play multiple instruments and takes pride in being able to produce his own music.

Vice, a North Carolina native, made his way to Los Angeles in April 2007 by way of inspiration and a spur of the moment cross country road trip. Upon arrival in L.A., Vice committed to living a creative lifestyle and enrolled in Icon Collective to focus his talents. Late 2007, Vice received a degree in Digital Music Production and has not looked back since. Now an advisor and private instructor, Vice is continually involved in the Icon Collective movement.

Currently Vice is writing and producing his record, while meticulously putting together a band for live performances. In addition, Vice has collaborated with a multitude of artists, namely on a remix of Prince's Bria Valente, and been featured on many of the Collective's own recordings. Thanks to the help and support from his extended family at Icon, Vice looks forward to proving to the world that he is a superstar.

DJ Rap

DJ Rap is CHARISSA SAVERIO and has been the undisputed queen of the turntables and voted the #1 female DJ in the world by Shejay.

She owns, records for, runs and A&Rs two labels, Propa Talent and Impropa Talent. Dj Rap is a producer, recording artist and an actor. She has been a prime mover on the Drum & Bass scene but not content to just sit in the studio and direct, she learned her craft as an engineer and produced many classics, often while collaborating with other artists. Hits like "Spiritual Aura" changed the face of Drum and Bass and lead to the birth of Proper Talent.

After being the first artist on the scene to self-release her first CD, she gathered interest from Sony and was soon signed to them along with the likes of Grooverider and Leftfield, where she surprised us again with a new sound. Rolling Stone Magazine gave Learning Curve three and a half stars "this is the record Madonna wanted to make." Learning Curve went on to sell over 1,000,000 bringing

her total sales to over 3,000,000 copies worldwide which include the successful compilations “Journeys By DJ", “Propa Classics Vol. 1 & 2", “Brave New World", “Armani Exchange & Touching Bass", “Bulletproof" and “Up All Night". Crossing genres and has become DJ Rap's trademark.

D. Ramirez

Many moons have passed since our silver soldier first exploded onto the scene. Traversing the globe with his trusty laptop in tow, the roving Ramirez has dispensed his razor sharp productions to unassuming dancefloors with the precision of first class marksman. Whether he’s hidden behind devilish disguises such as The Lisa Marie Experience, Cordial, Finger Fest and Rambo, or performed as the man you know best as D Ramirez, Dean Marriot has achieved more than an entire legion of lesser DJs.

He’s achieved five top 20 hits, played on every continent and single handedly coined THAT electrohouse sound. He was awarded Best Remix and Best Producer in DJ Magazine’s 2007 awards and 2006 saw him knighted as a Player Of The Year in iDJ. His remix of Bodyrox ‘Yeah Yeah’ scored him an Ivor Novello nomination while past exploits such as ‘Columbian Soul’, ‘Time Fades Away’, ‘Pleasure Me’ and ‘La Discotek’ have all achieved coveted Coolcuts and Buzz chart hotspots, championed by some of the biggest DJs in game. Hell, our hero’s even performed on Top Of Pops.

Back to the future, and we reach a new chapter in his success story. Tired of the over-peddled electrohouse sound, Dean’s moved on to new pastures. “I don’t feel comfortable with commerciality," he

states. “When people start expecting certain things of me I tend to back away." A true underground soldier, he backed away from the hype and heat.

After much soul searching, and a move to a new studio, he began to brew a new sound. Inspired by the noises of his tough-talking DJ sets, our soldier’s super power has been rejuvenated by the exciting sounds of deep house and techno. Sounds where melody and soul are found deep within the heart of the machines. If you consider his meticulous DJ mixes where loops, tricks and FX are intricately laced with exceptional accuracy, or his studio methods where he’s known to tinker with noises for days on end, it’s just a case of simple, logical progression.

A new chapter for our silver crusader beckons. Knowing the success he’s had at every other stage, you can only imagine what awaits him in the near future. One thing’s for certain, though, he’ll always remain a dedicated underground soldier...
